The Vatican has just announced a new collection of five villas, which it hopes will usher in a new era for its historic basilica in the Vatican city.
The new villa, called the Via Vitello, will be located at the heart of the basilica and house its entire interior.
The villas were designed by architect Paolo Mancini and will house a library, a reception room, an open-air garden, a gymnasium, and a theater.
The Via Vita delle Fide will also have a theater that is intended to celebrate religious life.
According to the press release, the villas are part of the Vatican’s effort to bring the church’s past and present into a new light.
The Vatican says the new collection will “recreate the architectural and interior characteristics of the past, while also offering a glimpse of the spiritual and intellectual atmosphere of the time.”
It’s unclear if the new villans will include the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, the Vatican Museum or the Vatican gardens.
